Stand Alone Media (SAM) provides numerous and brilliant researchers, artists and entrepreneurs the opportunity to explain their thoughts and creations.
Furthermore, SAM offers everyone the keys to grasp, appropriate and share this high quality content, which otherwise usually remains the prerogative of a small elite.
SAM provides time to understand.
SAM offers an innovative and easy platform that allows users to act and react with the content and thus to be involved in the online dissemination of knowledge.
Our mission: widely disseminate knowledge and creation
We assume that making tough issues such as public Policy problems or scientific theories clearer, and disclosing original patterns of thinking about the arts, science and philosophy contributes to fulfill a democratic ambition in tackling elitism and strengthening citizenship through a better understanding of our world.
All our programs aim at:
the topics and frameworks that shape our world, cultures and societies.
through original creations and ways of thinking, which spark interest and delight.
with clear explanations and providing articulate proposals that could influence decision makers and leaders.
Our requirement: a high-quality content
All our programs are extremely deepened, edited and shaped in order to be very accessible. The interviews we offer last between 10 and 20 minutes and are thought to be as educational, interesting and relevant as possible. Our « show-runners » are all deeply involved in all the pre-production, production and post-production process. They share the SAM passion for content and knowledge.
An Editorial Committee is in charge of evaluating the extent to which the programs meet our editorial criteria and standards and providing constructive ideas and feedbacks on videos.
The Editorial Committee consists of:
Councilor of State and Professor of Public Law (University of Paris-Sorbonne)
Economist, professor of Economics (Sciences Po)
Philosopher, researcher at the National Museum of Natural History, Professor of Philosophy (American University in Paris)
Astrophysicist, Director of Research (CNRS), Laureate of the 2011 CNRS Prize of the Best Scientific Woman of the Year
former philosopher Paul Ricoeur’s assistant, now Deputy-Head of the Presidential administration
Historian, Director of Research (CNRS), visiting professor at Yale and NYU
Our credo, belief: the slow media
Both because there is an uncompressible time of learning and because the clear understanding of a topic requires a minimum amount of time, it seems obvious that a correct explanation of a complex issue needs some time.
Unlike a trend, which tends to compress and format the information, we assume that it is crucial to revaluate longer programs for reflection. That’s why our programs last between 10 and 20 minutes max.
Our medium: digital media
Stand Alone Media is a digital audiovisual media, which provides a wider access to content, knowledge and culture.
SAM.TV is the online platform of Stand Alone Media. Thus the programs are broadcasted both on SAM.TV and a series of other online medias with which partnerships have been developed.
All programs broadcasted on SAM.TV are edited with a large range of intellectual resources (books, relevant links, quotes, etc.).
SAM.TV is willing to as participatory and user-friendly as possible. A chat allows users to discuss their opinion and views on the program. Anyone can “like”, “dislike” and share a program (or parts of it) on social networks (Facebook, Twitter, etc). Finally, SAM Desk provides the users the opportunity to upgrade the resources related to the programs.
Our ambition: create a video encyclopedia
Stand Alone Media, is also a network of thematic and interconnected similar web platforms dedicated to knowledge and creation: the SAM Network.
These thematic platforms are linked to the SAM Network and offer related videos and resources that aim at explaining complex issues, in every knowledge fields.
The SAM Network is prefiguring the ultimate goal of Stand Alone Media, which is to provide a video encyclopedia accessible for everybody.
